Chorlton Whisky Single Cask Brazilian Rum 11yo 53.6% 70cl

From Brazil's Epris Distillery, distilled from a blend of 80% cane juice and 20% molasses, matured for six years in amburana wood in Brazil, and then in ex-bourbon in Europe for the remainder.

The nose has pineapple tarte tatin, buttery apples, banana and custard, then herbal liqueurs, cough candy, and a handful of dill, fennel and caraway seeds. I also get some samphire and hot tarmac, before cleaner fruits (lime, cherry) develop with time.

The palate has lime, peach, demarara sugar, pineapple cubes, against a lightly tarry background. All the herbs from the nose are here too, before some juicy red fruits in the finish (strawberry, cherry, Turkish Delight) and a bit of pandan leaf.

It's the fruity/herbal combo that really jumps out with this one - quite unusual and quite delicious! It's easy drinking without being at all boring, and would (I suspect) be pretty fine with an ice cube or two in the summer. The cask produced 265 bottles at 53.6%
