This beer belongs to Torrside’s ‘Monsters’ range of strong ‘partigyle’ beers, meaning a group of beers all derived from a single mash, each then treated differently to imbue them with distinct characters. This 2020 vintage ‘Rauchwine’ is a smoked Barley wine, ‘rauch’ being German for ‘smoke’, matured in an ex-whisky oak barrel, released in celebration of Torrside’s 10th birthday. This is a sweet, rich and boozy number, with well-balanced smoke and whisky-soaked oak.
